Eligibility
1.1 What types of nonprofits can request Symantec subscription renewals?
Any nonprofit with a 501(c)(3) designation may request subscription renewals, provided that the organization:
  • Has an annual operating budget of no more than $10,000,000
  • Does not support political parties or candidates
  • Is not a religious organization without a secular community designation. A secular designation is defined as an organization separate from the church or religious organization that provides services to people regardless of their religious beliefs and does not propagate a belief in a specific faith. Example: A food bank with nonprofit or charity status that is run by a church but is a separate and unique organization that provides food and meals to anyone who qualifies for services, regardless of religious beliefs.
Note: This software is available to 501(c)(3) schools and 501(c)(3) libraries.
1.2 Does it matter how I obtained the product originally?
Your organization may renew a subscription for a 2008 Symantec product regardless of how the product was originally obtained; for example, it might have been obtained through Symantec's donation program with GIKI, it might have been purchased at retail price, or it might have been preloaded onto a new computer prior to purchase.
1.3 If I have already obtained other Symantec product donations from TechSoup Stock, am I eligible for subscription renewals also?
Yes. TechSoup Stock handles donations of Symantec desktop products and subscription renewals for desktop products. A nonprofit may obtain donations of both types of products, although there are limitations on the quantity of each type.

Product Selection
2.1 What renewals are currently available?
Norton AntiVirus 2008 Subscription Renewal
Norton Internet Security 2008 Subscription Renewal
Norton SystemWorks 2008 Subscription Renewal
2.2 What about Macintosh versions?
Donations of subscription renewals are available for Windows-based products only.
2.3 What is the difference between a subscription renewal and an upgrade?

A subscription renewal gives you the right to download data file updates for a year. Security products use data files that describe all currently known viruses and security threats. These data files have to be updated as new security threats are created. With an active subscription, you can download updated data files at any time, using Symantec's LiveUpdate feature. If the subscription is expired, you will not be able to obtain new data files, and therefore the program cannot protect you against new security threats. Subscription renewals do not include new features that may be included with later versions of the product. Subscription renewals are less expensive than upgrades.

If you obtain an upgrade, you will receive the latest version of the product, which may include new features. In addition, you will receive a one-year subscription renewal. Upgrades are more expensive than subscription renewals.

TechSoup Stock is distributing full, new products and subscription renewals. TechSoup Stock is not distributing upgrades.

2.4 For how long will the renewal remain valid?
The subscription renewal will be good up until one year from the date of installation.
2.5 Why do you offer "bundles"?
In order to support the needs of organizations of various sizes, we offer the option of obtaining subscription renewals in groups of 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 user licenses.
2.6 What if I have the 2007 product or an earlier product?
At this time, donated subscription renewals are offered only for 2008 products.
2.7 How do I determine which version of the software is installed on my computer?
Some products, such as Norton SystemWorks, display the version (year) prominently on the home page when you open the program. You should also be able to obtain the software version by choosing Help > About [product name]. The version should be displayed on the General tab.

Donation Limits
3.1 What are the quantity restrictions for subscription renewals?
A nonprofit may receive up to 50 subscription renewals each for up to two products — a total of up to 100 licenses.
3.2 How many times can I renew?
No more than two times, in perpetuity.
3.3 How do I renew my subscriptions after I've used this program?
The only other way to renew your subscriptions is to pay retail prices. However, you may also obtain donations of new Symantec desktop products from TechSoup Stock for administrative fees that are substantially lower than the retail price of a subscription renewal.

When to Request a Subscription Renewal
4.1 What if my 2008 product still has an active subscription?
There is no time limit for activation upon receiving a renewal; therefore, you may request the renewal before your current subscription expires.

A renewal can be activated any time after the tenth month of a subscription.

4.2 If I have more than one 2008 product and they have different expiration dates, should I request subscription renewals for all of them at one time?
Yes. Since there is no time limit for activation of a renewal, you are welcome to request renewals before your subscriptions expire.
4.3 If I have more than one 2008 product and they have different expiration dates, should I wait until they all expire before renewing?
No. You should request all of your renewals before the first expiration date. If you delay renewing your subscriptions, your computers will be vulnerable to new viruses and security threats. New viruses are the most dangerous viruses.
4.4 How and when should I renew products with different expiration dates?
You should request all desired renewals prior to the first subscription expiration. Renewals can be activated at any time.

Fulfillment
5.1 What will I receive when I request a subscription renewal?
You will receive an email containing the license key.
5.2 What will I receive if I request subscription renewals for two different products?
You will receive two emails, one for each product.
5.3 When will I receive my license key for my subscription renewal?
Your renewal is ready after (1) you have submitted your request; (2) TechSoup Stock has received payment of the associated administrative fees; and (3) TechSoup Stock has confirmed that you are requesting donations for a valid 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Steps 2 and 3 are sometimes completed immediately, but they could take days, depending on the form of payment and validation processing. Once your renewal is ready, it will be included in a batch of requests that is processed once a week, on Tuesday.

Installation
6.1 When should I complete the installation?
You can activate your renewal any time after the tenth month of the subscription. If you activate your renewal at the end of the tenth month, your subscription will expire in one year and two months.

Although renewals can be activated after a subscription has expired, it is always best not to let a subscription expire.

6.2 How do I install the key?
You will receive an email directing you to a Symantec URL, and there you will find detailed installation instructions.
6.3 What happens if the current subscription is not expired?
If your current subscription is in its eleventh or twelfth month, you will be allowed to complete the installation. If your current subscription is not yet in its eleventh month, the installation will fail. Unfortunately, the installation software and documentation will not tell you that your unexpired subscription is the reason for the failure.
6.4 How many installations must I complete?
You must install the subscription renewal on each computer individually. For example, if you have 50 copies of Norton AntiVirus, you must complete 50 installations.
