Description
Norton Utilities is a collection of tools that optimize the performance of a PC.
The Optimize window offers the following options:
- Clean Your Registry: Finds invalid registry entries and presents the user with a menu of possible actions for each one.
- Manage Your Startup: Allows startup items to be disabled, deleted, or enabled to maximize startup speed.
- Manage Your Services: Provides different options for configuring Windows services. The Minimal Services option gives faster boot times; the Recommended Services option balances features and speed.
- Defragment Your Registry: Removes gaps, wasted space, and corrupt keys from the registry. Like registry cleaning, defragmenting allows programs to launch as quickly as possible.
- Clean Your Disks: Provides options for cleaning Windows settings, browser settings, plug-ins, and custom items. It also allows "bleaching" of free space on drives or partitions, which renders deleted data unrecoverable by standard methods.
- Windows Defragmenter: Provides a streamlined interface to the Windows Disk Defragmenter.
A separate optimization button in the Monitor window applies a set of performance-enhancing tweaks and patches directly to the Windows Registry.
This product is identical to the version sold through the Symantec website and includes the standard support, renewal, and upgrade options available with retail products.

Downloading the Norton Utilities Installation File: When your donation request has been approved, TechSoup Stock will send an email to your organization email address containing download instructions. Symantec estimates download times will range from seconds for T1 connections to about 40 minutes for 128-Kbps connections. The download size is about 21.6 MB.

- The registry is backed up each time problems are repaired, so it can be restored if necessary.
- The Performance Test benchmarks a computer against similar PCs.
- The Process Viewer is a simplified task manager that shows CPU usage and priority for all processes and highlights active processes.
- The Registry Monitor displays an alert when a specified number of changes have been made to key areas of the registry.
- The Windows Tools window provides direct access to Windows system tools like System Information and the Device Manager.

Restrictions
- Donated product will be distributed under this program to qualifying organizations only, not to individuals.
- Two Symantec Desktop products may be requested within a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) and up to 100 licenses for each product.
- This donation is available to nonprofits with 501(c)(3) designation and to public libraries. Public libraries must either have valid 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or be listed in the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) database.
- Eligible organizations must have an annual operating budget of less than $10 million.
- This donation will not be made available to organizations that support political parties and/or candidates.
- This donation will not be made available to religious organizations, except that religious organizations requesting software for use in secular community service programs are eligible to receive donations.
- Organizations that advocate, support, or practice discrimination based on age, ethnicity, gender, national origin, disability, race, size, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background are not eligible to participate in this program. Organizations must be willing and able to attest that they do not discriminate on any of these grounds in order to receive donations.
- Symantec products may not be transferred or resold.
