Description
Norton Internet Security 2009 protects computers from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, botnets, spyware, adware, and hackers. The program automatically scans all incoming and outgoing data and also existing files. In addition to scheduled updates, it now updates protection every 5 to 15 minutes without user interaction. Intrusion-prevention technology shields newly discovered vulnerabilities in Windows and popular applications even before threats are devised to exploit them. Antiphishing protection guards users against visiting Web sites that try to trick them into divulging valuable personal information.
Free optional anti-spam and parental-control features block unwanted email and restrict user access to Web sites, newsgroups, and Internet programs.
This donation includes one CD-ROM, but no box or user guide. A PDF version of the user guide is available from Symantec. The donation also includes a one-year subscription for protection and new feature updates.
Note: Although Symantec does not provide telephone technical support for donated products, it does offer free email and live chat technical support on its award-winning Web site.
Norton Internet Security 2009 is available in packages of 1, 5, 10, and 25 CD-ROMs.

- New in 2009, "pulse protection" automatically updates protection every 5 to 15 minutes.
- A recovery tool boots and repairs badly infected computers.
- Network Detector automatically detects and blocks unknown computers from connecting to a user's computer on public networks, including wireless networks. It optimizes protection for both public and private networks.
- Auto-Protect scans all incoming and outgoing email messages and attachments, including compressed files, to help ensure that they are not infected. It also scans incoming traffic from instant messaging services and removes infections automatically. The Insight feature identifies "trusted" files and applications and doesn't rescan them unless there's been a change.
- Phishing protection checks visited Web sites against a global "blocklist" of known phishing sites that is updated in real time. It also uses an advanced analytic process that considers specific characteristics to determine if a site is fraudulent.

- Donated product will be distributed under this program to qualifying organizations only, not to individuals.
- Two Symantec Desktop products may be requested within a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) and up to 100 licenses for each product.
- This donation is available to nonprofits with 501(c)(3) designation and to public libraries. Public libraries must either have valid 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or be listed in the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) database.
- Eligible organizations must have an annual operating budget of less than $10 million.
- This donation will not be made available to organizations that support political parties and/or candidates.
- This donation will not be made available to religious organizations, except that religious organizations requesting software for use in secular community service programs are eligible to receive donations.
- Organizations that advocate, support, or practice discrimination based on age, ethnicity, gender, national origin, disability, race, size, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background are not eligible to participate in this program. Organizations must be willing and able to attest that they do not discriminate on any of these grounds in order to receive donations.
