Microsoft Donation Programs: Additional Restrictions
Organization types that are not eligible for participation in the Microsoft Donation Programs include:
Nonprofit organizations without a current 501(c)(3) exempt status or nongovernmental organizations without equivalent charitable status in their own country.
Private foundations - A private foundation is an organization that received or receives the majority of its assets or income from and is subject to control of an individual, family, corporation, or other limited source.
Governmental organizations or agencies including international governmental organizations and United Nations Entities. Please visit the Microsoft Government Licensing Web site for more information.
Educational institutions - Organizations eligible through Microsoft academic volume licensing programs are not eligible for software donations, including nonprofit private schools. Please visit the Microsoft Education Web site for more information.
Political, labor, sports, and fraternal organizations
Healthcare organizations and networks - Healthcare organizations and networks including hospitals, specialty networks, ambulatory healthcare services, home healthcare, and assisted living healthcare organizations are not eligible. Please visit the Microsoft Healthcare Web site.
Exceptions: The following types of healthcare organizations are eligible to request Microsoft software donations.
Community health clinics - 501(c)(3) community health clinics that are designated as Community Health Center Programs by the U.S. Department of Health are eligible to receive donations.
Behavioral healthcare nonprofits - organizations that provide mental health, chemical dependency, mental retardation/developmental disabilities services, and other psychosocial services to the community.
Women's health centers
Blood banks
Healthcare research organizations and research laboratories - includes organizations pursuing systematic investigation, including research development, testing and evaluation, designed to develop or contribute to general knowledge. Please visit the Microsoft Healthcare Web site.
Commerce and Trade Associations without charitable aims or activities.
Sponsorships of events, tables, exhibitions, or performances
Fundraising events such as luncheons, dinners, walks, runs, or sports tournaments
Refurbishers that will be installing the donated software on refurbished computers to be distributed or donated to nonprofits or schools. Please visit the Community MAR Americas Program.
Religious organizations not registered as a charity and without a secular community designation that is separate from the church or religious organization. A secular designation is defined as an organization that provides services to people regardless of their religious beliefs and does not propagate a belief in a specific faith. Example: A food bank with nonprofit or charity status that is run by a church, but is a separate and unique organization that provides food and meals to anyone who qualifies for services, regardless of religious beliefs. Non-public libraries, including private libraries, school libraries, specialty libraries, armed forces libraries, and libraries in government agencies.
