Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1 protects networked laptops, desktops, and servers ("endpoints") against viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware, adware, rootkits, and threats not seen before ("zero-day attacks"). It consists of client software that runs on the endpoints and management software that runs on a server. This product is most suitable for organizations with between 5 and 100 endpoints.

This donation includes a one-year subscription for use of the product, protection updates, and new product features.

Major Capabilities

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition incorporates these technologies of the standard Endpoint Protection application, all manageable through a single console:

• Antivirus and antispyware: scans for both viruses and security risks
• Desktop firewall: prevents unauthorized users from accessing the computers and the networks that connect to the Internet
• Intrusion prevention: acts as the client's second layer of defense after the firewall
• Proactive threat scanning: analyzes the behavior of an application or process to determine if it exhibits characteristics of threats

The Small Business Edition does not include the device control or application control technologies, which are more suited to larger organizations.

Support, Renewals, and Upgrades

This product is identical to the version sold through the Symantec website and includes the standard support, renewal, and upgrade options available with retail products.

New in Version 12.1

Version 12.1 adds:

• Support for Mac OS X endpoints
• Insight technology, which identifies rapidly mutating threats and also speeds up scans by examining only files at risk
• SONAR 3 technology for proactive threat scanning

• Donated product will be distributed under this program to qualifying organizations only, not to individuals.
• Two Symantec Norton products and two Symantec Enterprise products may be requested within a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30).
• Up to 100 licenses may be requested for each product except Backup Exec products, for which 1 license may be requested.
• Eligible organizations must have an annual operating budget of less than $10 million.
• This donation is available to nonprofits with 501(c)(3) designation and to public libraries. Public libraries must either have valid 501(c)(3) nonprofit status or be listed in the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) database.
• This donation will not be made available to some student groups or academic organizations, employee or membership benefit organizations, some social or recreational clubs, Boy Scouts, organizations that support political parties or candidates, advocacy groups, or faith-based organizations whose primary mission is religious (see Serving Faith-Based Organizations with Technology Donations).
• Organizations that advocate, support, or practice discrimination based on age, ethnicity, gender, national origin, disability, race, size, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background are not eligible to participate in this program. Organizations must be willing and able to attest that they do not discriminate on any of these grounds in order to receive donations.
• Symantec products may not be transferred or resold.
