Norton Internet Security 2011 protects computers from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, botnets, rootkits, spyware, adware, and hackers. The program automatically scans all incoming and outgoing data and also existing files.

Intrusion-prevention technology shields newly discovered vulnerabilities in Windows and popular applications even before threats are devised to exploit them. Antiphishing protection guards users against visiting websites that try to trick them into divulging valuable personal information. Anti-spam protection blocks unwanted email. Parental-control features restrict user access to websites, newsgroups, and Internet programs. Norton Safe Web identifies unsafe and dangerous websites within a set of search results.

Other capabilities include the following:

• Auto-Protect scans all incoming and outgoing email messages and attachments, including compressed files, to help ensure that they are not infected. It also scans incoming traffic from instant messaging services and removes infections automatically. The Insight feature identifies "trusted" files and applications and doesn't rescan them unless there's been a change.
• Network Detector automatically detects and blocks unknown computers from connecting to a user's computer on public networks, including wireless networks. It optimizes protection for both public and private networks.
• Automatic and on-demand application optimization improves application performance.
• Norton Insight technologies provide information on threats, downloads, files, and system performance.

Licensing

This donation includes 20 boxes with CD-ROMs and 20 one-year subscriptions for use of the product, protection updates, and new product features. The product will cease to function entirely after one year unless the subscription is renewed.

Retail Version

This product is identical to the version sold through the Symantec website and includes the standard support, renewal, and upgrade options available with retail products.
