The ArcGIS 3D Analyst extension expands the core capabilities of ArcView GIS software by providing advanced visualization, analysis, and surface generation tools. Patterns and trends appear in three dimensions that might not be discovered in a flat, two-dimensional view.
This donation from Esri includes ArcGIS 3D Analyst software and the web-based training course Learning ArcGIS 3D Analyst.
Here are some notable features of this product:
- ArcGIS 3D Analyst can use all the data sets supported by ArcGIS and also contains an extensive data set for global visualization down to approximately 1:300,000.
- Data sets terabytes in size can be manipulated and visualized.
- Three-dimensional styles are included for a variety of real-world, photorealistic symbols, such as houses, skyscrapers, industrial buildings and equipment, street furniture, trees and plants, and vehicles.
- Various data layer effects are available, such as transparency, lighting, shading, and depth priority.
ArcView or ArcEditor Required
Recipient organizations must already have and use single-user ArcView or ArcEditor software or else request ArcView concurrently with this extension.
Extension Compatibility
ArcGIS 3D Analyst is compatible with the current version of ArcGIS ArcView or ArcEditor. Organizations with an ArcGIS core desktop product version 9 or earlier must upgrade to the currently shipping version in order to use this extension license.
ArcGIS 3D Analyst Software
ArcGIS 3D Analyst adds these capabilities to those of ArcView:
- Data visualization: Extensive tools allow visualization of geographic vector or raster data in three dimensions.
- Interactive navigation: Tools allow control of the height and direction of a view, panning, zooming, spinning, and flying or walking over data.
- Surface creation and analysis: For some specific data analysis, new surfaces can be created from existing data sets as regularly spaced grids or as triangulated irregular networks (TINs).
- 3D symbols: More than 500 industry-standard three-dimensional symbols can be used to represent GIS features, such as trees or fire hydrants for point features, grass or water for polygon features, and tubes or texture lines for line features.
- Fly-through paths and animations: Animations created using preset flight paths, key frames, and other interactive tools can be saved in standard video formats, such as MPEG, AVI, and QuickTime.
In addition, ArcGIS 3D Analyst includes two specialized 3D viewing applications, ArcScene and ArcGlobe. Both allow users to effectively manage their 3D GIS data, conduct 3D analysis, edit 3D features, create layers within 3D viewing properties, and create 3D features from existing two-dimensional data.
More details and links to case studies can be found on the Esri website to help in evaluating whether this product is what is needed.
Training Course
The online training course Learning ArcGIS 3D Analyst introduces raster and vector surface models. In course exercises, students display surfaces in three-dimensional perspective, symbolize them, set three-dimensional properties, and create realistic models by draping aerial photographs over surfaces. The course takes about 21 hours to complete.
Free Add-ons
The ArcScripts website contains thousands of free user-created extensions, tools, and add-ons for any Esri product.
Single-User Version
This license is for a single-user version. Organizations that already own concurrent-user versions of any Esri software will not be able to use the product offered here with their concurrent-user version. Further, on a given computer, no single-user product can be used at the same time as any concurrent-user product.
This product must be installed and activated on only one computer.
Support and Maintenance
Esri will provide one year of product support and maintenance to recipients of this donation. In addition to telephone and online support, maintenance includes new software releases, service packs, patches, and hot fixes.
Before this year of free software maintenance and support expires, Esri will send a quotation for continuing software maintenance for the following year. Organizations have the option of purchasing the software maintenance from Esri, terminating the maintenance agreement and using the product without support, or applying to the Esri Conservation Program for a maintenance grant at http://www.conservationgis.org/grant/maintenancegrants.html. If the agreement is terminated and later reinstated, the organization will be billed for the lapsed maintenance period and the new annual maintenance period.
