What to Do When There Is a match

Steps to take if your software or search returned a positive OFAC-SDN result

If there are matches with any names you’ve searched using any OFAC-SDN application or tool, you will need to obtain proof that they are not really a match in order to process the grant. To do so, your organization needs to request project contacts for proof of their citizenship and/or birth dates at the grantee organization. A photocopy of a government issued identification such as a drivers license or passport will provide this information. Compare that information with the information on the OFAC-SDN list, and that would confirm that they a false positive. Any matches (true positives) should be reviewed and documented. Place a hold on the pending transaction. Contact the organization to clarify their information. If you have questions about what to do, in this situation you should contact your Mott Program Officer.

Document everything by printing out screenshots, even if there were no matches, and keep photocopies such as driver's licenses, passports, 501(c)(3) determination letters or whatever you collect to verify that your grantee is not on this list. Make sure you note the date that you conducted the search check somewhere in the documentation.

You can find details of this required documentation in Mott's Grantee Toolbox and Grantee Requirements. You can access the entire site by using the navigation links on the left navigation bar. Alternatively, you should have received an email from Mott containing login information for the Grantee toolbox so follow those instructions stated in the email.
