Mott Re-Granting Compliance Project

Project Overview

CompuMentor and NPower, supported by a grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, are providing technical assistance to grantees to help them comply with the new list-checking requirements that are a result of the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (USA PATRIOT) Act. CompuMentor and NPower are both nonprofit technology assistance providers with over 20 years of combined experience providing reliable, high-quality services to the nonprofit sector.

As an organization that currently re-grants Mott funds or is considering re-granting Mott funds in the future, you are eligible for technical assistance from CompuMentor and NPower. The Mott Foundation, CompuMentor and NPower are committed to providing you the highest quality technical assistance and support throughout this project.

You may have already participated in the first phase of this project, a needs assessment conducted by CompuMentor to help the Mott Foundation better understand the type and range of assistance you will need to meet the new list-checking requirement. Based on the results of this needs assessment, CompuMentor and NPower are currently implementing the second phase of this project: building the capacity of Mott-designated organizations to utilize recommended list-checking software in accordance with USA PATRIOT Act compliance guidelines prepared by the Mott Foundation.

For more about these guidelines, please visit the Mott Toolbox at http://toolbox.mott.org.

Project Activities

As a part of this project, grantees will receive a variety of technical assistance including training, direct assistance, informational resources, and real-time online assistance via instant messaging.

Training

Our training strategy is two-fold: we provide the tools necessary to ensure that your organization’s management team understands and is able to support the technology and human infrastructure necessary to complete common business tasks such as data tracking and security. In addition, we provide training on new software and tactical support to the individuals responsible for implementing list-checking within your organization.

Over the next eighteen months, NPower, with CompuMentor’s support, will provide two reoccurring web-based trainings:

  • Data Care & Management: The Data Care & Management workshop provides key information and next steps required so that your organization can manage your data in a secure and accessible way. Good data management practices ensure that you are maintaining reliable data sources. If your organization currently struggles to track and store your data in an organized and secure way, this workshop will help you implement the changes you need to improve your data management and reliably meet the new list-checking requirement.
  • Bridger Insight Web v6.0: The Mott Foundation recommends the use of a specific list-checking application called Bridger Insight. This workshop will provide the training your staff needs to use Bridger Insight, so that list-checking can be done effectively and efficiently.

The training will be offered on a rolling schedule. Organizations will be invited to join the training based on the information collected during the needs assessment phase.

Direct Assistance

All Mott re-granting organizations will receive a minimum of five hours of direct assistance to help ensure that you have adequately documented your list-checking procedure. In addition, the needs assessment identified a group of organizations that may benefit from additional assistance with data management and security. If your organization is one of these that qualifies for additional assistance, you will be contacted by a technology assistance provider to discuss next steps.

NPower will provide direct assistance in the United States. CompuMentor will work with regional partners to bring local technical assistance to organizations outside of the United States.

Please find out more about all of our partners at the project resource site.

Informational Resources

All training materials and other resources will be archived, for the life of the project, at the project resource site.

Real-time Online Assistance via Instant Messaging

We understand that you may have questions that arise outside of the workshops or visits from your technology assistance provider. CompuMentor and NPower are committed to making sure that you have access to someone who can answer your questions about list-checking at all times. For that reason, CompuMentor and NPower will establish an Instant Messaging presence and make that, as well as step-by-step instructions for use, available to all participating grantees. This support network will be available for ad hoc questions. For details on this, please see the project resource site.
