Get Started with TechSoup's Sample Technology Plan
Evaluate your infrastructure, and budget for the future
May 15, 2005
For some, creating a technology plan ranks right up there with preparing their taxes or changing a flat tire. Yet while building a tech plan isn't the most exciting of undertakings, it is an essential step in evaluating your organization's existing technology infrastructure, and in budgeting for the future.
Luckily, you don't need to start your tech plan from scratch. This comprehensive document will outline what your organization's plan should include, and walk you through the steps of assessing your needs, of taking inventory of your current equipment, and of creating a prioritized plan for the future.
The worksheet is split into two sections. Section one provides tools and forms for documenting IT needs, policies, and procedures; establishing technology management practices; and strengthening an existing infrastructure.
Section two delves into best practices, from technology-use policies to annual training budgets to ergonomics. This portion of the worksheet will help you revamp your procedures, and get the most from your technology.
Regrettably, this plan won't change your flat tire or prepare your tax return. It will, however, help your organization make the most of technology, both now and in the future. What are you waiting for?
