VLC media player plays video and audio in numerous file formats as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming streaming protocols. VLC can also convert video and audio files to desired formats. Since VLC supports many different media formats, it eliminates the need to install multiple, proprietary media players, some of which may carry advertising or spyware.

- Includes it's own codecs, so nothing else to download. Will play almost any format, both audio and video. Hardly any installation and configuration involved.
- Cons:
- Had a couple of videos that it choked on, lost most of the video frames. But the other 98% I've thrown at it worked great!
