Forums Usage FAQ
Frequently asked questions about how to use the TechSoup forums
- What do I do if I've lost my password?
- If you have lost your password, please enter your email address here. Your password will be sent to you by e-mail. If you are still encountering problems, or if you no longer have your prior email address information, please email us at info [at] techsoup [dot] org.
- What are user profiles?
-
A user profile allows you to share information with other community members. This is helpful for other community users and is a fun place to build your reputation and promote your organization's Web site. This is an option, and not a requirement, of course. Some information you can choose to share in your public profile:
- URL
- City, State, Country
- Organization name
- Organization mission
- Last 10 posts
- Photo
- Favorite URLS
- Personal statement
To view another member's profile, click on his or her user name from any discussion thread.
- How can I create or edit my user profile?
- Click on the red Edit my Profile link under the horizontal information bar on each page of the TechSoup Community Forums. This will allow you to fill out as much or as little information as you'd like. It will only display when you are logged in.
- How do I get a picture under my user name?
- To post a picture, you must have a hosted picture online. Enter the URL of the picture in the Image URL field in your profile. If you do not have one hosted online, you can do so by uploading a picture of a free photo site, (such as Flickr) that will allow you to host an image on the Web. Then simple copy and paste the URL of the picture into the Image URL field in your profile.
- What size picture should I use?
- Due to the size of the TechSoup image window, small pictures tend to work best. We’ve found 130 x 130 pixels images to scale well.
- Can I receive email notifications when a new message is posted?
-
Yes, you can subscribe to this community in three different ways:
- By forum. If there is a forum topic, for example Wireless Technology that particularly interests you, you can subscribe to all messages posted to this via email.
- By topic. Like a certain discussion thread or topic? Subscribe to it and you'll be notified every time there is new activity with the thread.
- By user. You can also subscribe to an individual user. This will inform you every time that user posts something new to the TechSoup Community.
- What are private messages?
- You can select whether other community members may email you or send you a private message. The link to send a private message is located under the user name. If you have a private message, there will be a red mailbox with the flag raised, above the horizontal navigation bar, in the upper right hand corner of the message board screen.
